ISS Ice, Sports & Solar GmbH hat in Höhe der ermittelten Menge CO2 Anteile (Zertifikate) aus Klimschutzprojekten erworben und trägt damit sichtbar zur Realisierung dieser Projekte bei. Damit wird sichergestellt, dass die eigenen CO2 Emissionen kompensiert und der Anstieg der Erderwärmung gedrosselt wird.

Die Projekte wurden zertifiziert und die Ausgabe und Stilllegung der Zertifikate wird transparent registriert.

ISS Ice, Sports & Solar GmbH nimmt damit am freiwilligen Emissionshandel teil und leistet mit der Verringerung des Treibhausgases einen Beitrag für eine lebenswerte Umwelt. Der Inhaber dieses Zertifikats engagiert sich nachhaltig in den Bemühungen gegen die globale Klimaerwärmung.

TAIWAN

Harnessing the energy of coastal winds to power Taiwan communities
These two wind farms help drive Taiwan’s renewable energy expansion and pave the way for sustainable development. Each year, this project prevents over 320.000 tonnes of greenhouse gases from entering the atmosphere.
 

The Context
Despite the abundant coastal winds along its shoreline, Taiwan remains heavily reliant on fossil fuels, which make up over 75 percent of its total installed electricity capacity. Shifting towards sustainable energy is vital for both Taiwan’s national security, and for its economic and environmental prosperity.

The Project
This project harnesses the plentiful supply of wind energy along Taiwan’s coast near Taichung in the west and Changbin in the east. The wind farms consist of 62 wind turbines, and generate over 480.000 MWh of clean power each year which is supplied to the local electricity grid.

The Benefits
In addition to contributing to global climate change mitigation, this project is engaged in several nature preservation enterprises such as regular beach clean ups and guided tours that raise awareness about climate change, pollution and other environmental issues. The project has also led to the forestation of 2.400 m2 of land, encouraging local biodiversity.

Generating sustainable electricity for western China’s rural communities
This project involves local farmers who collect cotton stalks and burn them to generate carbon neutral power. This activity both creates sustainable electricity and creates an additional income stream for rural people in the project area, boosting the local economy.

The Context 

The Bachu Biomass project is located near the city of Kashgar in Xinjiang province on the historic Northern Silk Road at China’s westernmost border. The region’s rich culture has a strong tradition of trade and transfer and cotton growing for the textile industry is the region’s main economic pillar. However, power generation in the area is almost exclusively coal- fired and produces high levels of greenhouse gas emissions. 

The Project 

This project provides the province with renewable energy and simultaneously creates economic benefits for local farmers. The cotton stalks collected by farmers are sold to the power plant, which combusts this surplus biomass in a state-of-the-art straw-fired boiler that generates thermal energy at a capacity of 12 MW. This energy is then supplied to the local electrical grid. This process creates ash as a waste product, which is then given back to the farmers free of charge as crop fertiliser. 

The Benefits 

Prior to the implementation of the project, cotton stalks were considered as waste product that was burned open air in the fields. Now, it is collected and transformed into carbon neutral energy that powers the wider region, strengthening the regional grid against power failures. The project also strengthens local economies by creating jobs, supplementing incomes and providing free fertiliser to increase crop yields. In addition, the project owner provides scholarships to families in need and financial support for local cultural activities.

Half the jobs created by the project are filled by people from local ethnic minorities, while a quarter of total project staff are women.

Biomass Power Project at Godawari Power and Ispat Limited 20MW

India

Godawari Power and Ispat Limited (GPIL) has installed a 20MW biomass based power project at Siltara, Raipur. The purpose of the project activity is to generate electricity using renewable biomass residues i.e. rice husk to reduce GHG (CO2) emissions. As biomass is a CO2 neutral fuel, the power produced by the GPIL from renewable biomass will have zero GHG emissions. Also as it is replacing fossil fuel intensive based power generation from Indian grid, thereby results in reducing emissions from such fossil fuels. 

In the project activity, biomass shall be combusted in the boiler for producing high pressure steam to generate 20MW electricity. The total annual generation of electricity from the project activity will be 126.72 GWh. The rice husk will be collected from a radius of 50km from projectsite. The project has obtained the requisite clearances and is commissioned on 01 November 2010.

Government of India has stipulated the following indicators for the sustainable development in the interim approval guidelines for Gold Standard projects. 

Social and Economic wellbeing: The project would lead to generation of direct and indirect employment and improving economic condition of the area. The project activity adds income to the farmers by providing added
economic value to the produce of farmers by procuring rice husk from the rice mills. This will definitely help the
millers to pay better price to the farmers for their paddy crop.
Since the biomass resources are to be collected and transported to the plant site from the fields, opportunities are being generated for the rural people to collect and transport the biomass residues. The rice husk transportation to site will provide employment opportunities to a number of trucks and other similar vehicles will be making trips to project site throughout the year. This will increase the transport related income and employment. The above benefits due to the project activity ensure that the project would contribute to social and economic wellbeing in the region.

Environmental wellbeing: The project activity utilises biomass potential available for power generation, which
otherwise is left un-utilised (left to decay or burnt). Thus it aids in the resource utilization and avoids pollution due to burning / dumping of biomass in nearby areas. Further, project activity replaces part of power generated in the grid using predominantly fossil fuels such as coal, lignite and gas. The project would not result in increase of GHG emissions and cause no negative impact on the environment.

Technological wellbeing: Successful implementation of this project would encourage other promoters to adopt
similar technology in the relevant sector and hence the project leads to technological wellbeing.

In view of the above, the project participants consider that the project activity strongly contributes to
sustainable development in the host country.

Aberdares Improved Cook Stoves

Kenya

Description
This project will distribute approximately 23,000 improved cook stoves to domestic users utilising wood as their primary fuel. The stoves are based on a permanent construction of bricks & mortar, providing improved fuel efficiency and reduced indoor air pollution.

This will contribute to an improvement of both local and global environmental quality. Stoves will be built in the area surrounding the Aberdares range, Central Province, Kenya.

The Aberdares Range is part of the Kenyan Five Water Towers, which are critical as water catchments, vital for tourism, and hence towards achieving Kenya’s vision 2030. Large scale, uncontrolled, irregular, or illegal human activities like charcoal production, logging, settlements, and crop cultivation, among others, caused devastation within the Aberdares range.

In the absence of this project, householders in the areas targeted would cook primarily using traditional inefficient 3-stone (open) fires
